In this “Gagosian Quarterly” video, Mary Weatherford discusses the paintings on view in her 2022 exhibition, “The Flaying of Marsyas,” at Museo di Palazzo Grimani in Venice. For this show, the artist created a series of new abstractions in Flashe paint and neon tubing that are directly inspired by Titian’s late-period masterpiece of the same title from circa 1570–76.
